Festival of Flight at Pangborn Memorial Airport

 BACKGROUND

On October 3, 1931, Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon embarked on a daring journey from Sabishiro Beach in Misawa, Japan. Their mission: to pilot Miss Veedol across the Pacific Ocean in the first-ever non-stop trans-Pacific flight. After an arduous 41 hours in the air, Miss Veedol made a dramatic crash landing on the bluffs above East Wenatchee. This incredible feat forever linked the Wenatchee Valley with Misawa and cemented its place in aviation history.

To honor this historic event, Pangborn's Festival of Flight was created. This annual celebration commemorates the bravery and pioneering spirit of Pangborn and Herndon. The festival not only highlights East Wenatchee's rich aviation history but also fosters a sense of community and international friendship.

Each year, the festival features a variety of activities for all ages, including displays of remarkable airplanes, food vendors, face painting, and exhibits showcasing aviation and Japanese cultural activities. This family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to learn, celebrate, and remember the extraordinary achievements that continue to inspire the Wenatchee Valley and beyond.
